Youth Service

Brightside offer specialist youth provision for young people aged 13-19 years.
We offer a Saturday social group throughout the year, which operates between 10-1pm. In addition to our term time provision we also offer additional services during school holidays. This includes weekday provision and an extension to our Saturday group which then operates 10-4pm.

Young adults are invited to come together with peers in a safe and supported environment, which is managed by a highly skilled and experienced staff team. We operate at a capacity of 16 young people to ensure the environment is well managed, calm and not over stimulating for our members.

Young people are highly involved in the planning of our programme, which is produced on a half termly basis. This programme, which is reflective of our members’ needs and interests, is sent home so members can be prepared for the key activity of the day.

What's On

Take a look at our events and timetable.

We offer a range of fun activities including those which take place in the building, as well as off site. Examples include, themed days linked to events across the year, (Easter, Christmas etc) visits from skilled professionals such as football coaches, animal party hosts, peer massage tutors. Off site activities have included trampolining, Kirkley Hall, Newburn Leisure Centre, Washington Wetlands, to name a few! In addition to having lots of fun, young people are also supported to develop social skills, as well as skills for independence.

Once our members reach the age of 18 they are able to transition to our adults Saturday group, or remain in the youth group until their friends are also at an age to move sessions.  This flexible transition process enables established friendship groups to remain together. It also ensures transition is person centred as opposed to being purely age restricted.

Our staff are equipped to support young people with a wide range of additional needs. Staffing is offered on a 1-1, 1-3 and 1-6 basis. A decision regarding the appropriate level of support is always made in consultation with parents and other professionals.
Costs to access our service are charged at an hourly rate and differ depending on the level of support required. Total session costs are inclusive of all activities, snacks and lunch. Funding to access our youth group can be made via a direct payment, or families can choose to fund individual sessions too.
